Acuaes awards Tedagua the sewerage and water treatment works of Badajoz’s rural districts

The Spanish Ministry of Agriculture, Food and the Environment (MAGRAMA), through the state corporation Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Acuaes), has awarded the temporary consortium formed by Tedagua and Altec Infraestructuras a € 8.6 m contract for the sewerage and water treatment works for seven rural districts in the province of Badajoz. The project will be co-funded by the MAGRAMA through Acuaes, the EU’s ERDF programme and the Badajoz City Council.

This contract governs the construction of four new wastewater treatment plants (WWTP), all of them provided with biological treatment techniques, which will serve the Alvarado, Alcazaba, Novelda and Sagrajas districts. Two pumping stations with the associated pipelines will also be built. The first pumping station will convey water from the outlet at the town of Balboa to the Villafranco WWTP and the second one from Gévora to the new WWTP in Badajoz. The works also include replacement of the main sewer in Villafranco that carries the town’s wastewater to its own WWTP. The 5,600 m of sewerage conduits will be made of PVC and FGRP, with diameters ranging between 800 and 1,400 mm.

These new infrastructures will meet the treatment needs of an equivalent population of 15,500 inhabitants, since it will be capable of treating an average flow rate of 2,400 m3/d. Both the treatment plants and the pumping stations will also be equipped with storm tanks for storing and regulating the first foul waters.

The works are expected to be finished in 13 months, which will be followed by an 8-month facility commissioning and testing period.
