Doraleh desalination plant enters its final stretch with the start of its commissioning process.

The commissioning process and first drinking water production tests of the Doraleh desalinating plant, located in the capital of Djibouti, took place on March 14. These actions are part of the PEPER (Producing Safe Drinking Water with Renewable Energy) project led by the European Commission as part of the “Sustainable Energy for All” initiative.

The plant's construction, carried out by Tedagua in collaboration with the Eiffage Génie Civil French company, and its subsequent exploitation for a period of 5 years, will improve the supply of drinking water to the region by adding the 22,500 m3 per day generated by the desalination plant to the distribution system, benefiting a population of approximately 200,000.

The President of the County, His Excellence Ismail Omar Guelleh, attended the event at the plant in the company of the first lady and President of the UNFD (Union Nationale des Femmes de Djibouti), Kadra Mahamoud Haid. They were joined by the Director General of the ONEAD (Office National de L’Eau Et De L’assainissement de Djibouti) Mr. Mohamed Fouad Abdo and a number of public figures and political representatives of the country and Europe.

All of them witnessed the start of the plant's testing process and attended a small inauguration ceremony where the Director General of the ONEAD highlighted the importance of the transfer of technical knowledge and technology offered by the Tedagua - Eiffage group in the construction of this project. The President of Djibouti also showed his appreciation, highlighting the importance of the plant for the region and thanking all those involved for their trust and commitment with the social project and source of sustainable development that the Doraleh desalination plant represents.
