Samuel Juárez, delegate of the Government of Galicia, visits the Monforte de Lemos supply works

Samuel Juárez, delegate of the Government of Galicia, accompanied by the general manager of Acuaes, Aránzazu Vallejo, the head of the council on the Environment, Territory, and Infrastructure, Agustín Hernández, the mayor of Monforte, Severino Rodríguez, the chairman of Augas de Galicia, Francisco Menéndez and other authorities, visited the works for the new Monforte de Lemos drinking water treatment plant (DWTP) located in the Ribasaltas parish.
In December 2010 the Ministry of Agriculture, Food, and the Environment through the state enterprise Aguas de las Cuencas de España (Acuaes), awarded the contract for “Preparation and execution of the works for the expansion and upgrade of the Monforte de Lemos drinking water treatment system” to the joint venture TEDAGUA - Constructora San José, with a budget of 5.3 million euros. The works are planned for completion at the beginning of 2014.
The head of Acuaes was “surprised” by the progress of the works and by the “magnitude” of the installations. She called it “a magnificent facility, generous not only in terms of space and equipment, but also in terms of quality. It is a model facility that is being built on schedule”, she emphasized.
The objective of the project is to provide the city with a quality drinking water treatment system to meet the demand of a population of approximately 20,000 inhabitants, the demands of industry and the dry port while complying with the demands of EC regulations. The supply system includes improvement of the current intake at the Freixo outlet dam, raw water conduits, auxiliary sewerage, the new drinking water treatment plant with a maximum flow of 230 l/s (19,872 m3/day), a new 3,200 m3 treated water regulation tank, the pump station, the discharge pipe from Ribasaltas to Cornado, an access road to the new plant and measures to improve operation of the network in the area of San Vicente and Piñeira.
