Tedagua will perform the operation and maintenance of the largest desalination plant in Africa
· The desalination plant has a nameplate capacity of 500,000 m3/day, being capable of serving over 1.5 million people.
· The plant's functioning and management will be improved, while also defining the necessary projects to increase the current production.
Tedagua has been awarded the technical assistance agreement for the management of the Magtaa desalination plant, located in Wilaya d' Oran (Algeria), which is currently the most important plant in the country, in Africa, and one of the largest in the world.
The purpose of the agreement, which will have an initial duration of one year, is to improve the functioning of the desalination plant, with a capacity of 500,000 m3/day, thereby guaranteeing the drinking water service for over 1.5 million inhabitants of Oran and its vicinity, in addition to the region's industries. In addition, operation and maintenance optimization actions will be undertaken for the plant, while defining refurbishment projects to increase the current production.
The plant was constructed under a BOT scheme as part of a public-private partnership, with the participation of the national Algerian Energy Company (AEC), which fosters joint, large-scale desalination projects with national and foreign companies. The success of the exploitation of the Beni Saf desalination plant, with a capacity of 200,000 m3/day, has led AEC to rely on Tedagua and Cobra Algérie for the works at the Magtaa plant.
The award of this agreement will increase Tedagua's experience in Algeria, in addition to strengthening the relationship with the companies and public institutions of the country.
