Slurry treatment plant at Peñarroya de Tastavins
"This plant was designed as part of the LIFE ES-WAMAR European program to manage some of the excess liquid manure from the many livestock businesses in the region, with the purpose of generating electricity with the biogas that is obtained from the liquid manure, preventing soil contamination with high levels of nitrate. The plant was designed for a treatment capacity of 120,000 m3/year, with an average pollutant load of 37,500 mgO2/l. The treatment process consists of physical separation with a biological treatment (nitrification / denitrification) which allows for the reuse of the liquid discharge as irrigation water for crops, as well as the solids as fertilizer. The anaerobic digestion is accomplished by two digesters with a capacity of 3,000 m3 each, and the biogas electricity & heat cogeneration generates 526 kW of electric power and 559 kW of thermal energy each day. The facility also has a 14-heap composting line with a total capacity of 925 m3 and a daily compost production of 25 Tn. "
