Tedagua tasked with building the Bilwi water treatment plant in Nicaragua
As part of the drinking water service expansion and improvement plan of the city of Bilwi, capital of the Región Autónoma del Atlántico Norte, Empresa Nicaragüense de Acueductos y Alcantarillados (Nicaraguan Aqueduct and Sewer Company, ENACAL) has selected Tedagua to build its treatment plant and pumping station no. 2. The goal of this operation is to increase the coverage and improve the quality of the drinking water service in the city, provide service to four neighboring rural communities and improve efficiency and sustainability in the provision of the service.
The USD 6.4 million contract includes the construction of a new conventional drinking water treatment plant to treat a flow of 300 liters per second, as well as the construction of a pumping station at the output end of the plant that will raise the water to the storage tanks.
This action, which is expected to benefit over eleven thousand homes, is funded by the Government of Nicaragua through ENACAL and by the Spanish Cooperation Fund for Water and Sanitation in Latin America and the Caribbean (FECASALC) and managed through the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). According to a statement by Thierry Delaunay, IDB project team leader, “This project represents strategic support to improve quality of life in one of the areas with the highest poverty in Nicaragua.”
