Rayis-Rabigh IWTP led by Tedagua reaches preliminary testing stage and moves closer to operations
- The infrastructure has entered the preliminary testing phase, marking another major milestone on the path to commissioning one of Saudi Arabia’s key water transmission links.

The Rayis-Rabigh IWTP (Independent Water Transmission Project), led by Tedagua through Grupo Cobra and developed in partnership with Alkhorayef Water & Power Technologies, continues to progress according to schedule and has achieved a new milestone with the start of preliminary testing ahead of its commercial operation.
To mark this achievement, SHARAKAT CEO Eng. Khaled AlQureshi visited the project facilities to review the progress of an infrastructure that will play a key role in strengthening the Kingdom’s water system. During the visit, he was able to see firsthand the positive progress being made on a project considered strategic for delivering a safer, more efficient, and more resilient water supply.
The project includes the construction and 35-year operation of a water transmission system connecting the cities of Rayis and Rabigh through a pipeline approximately 151 kilometres long. Designed to transport up to 500,000 m³ of water per day in both directions, the system will help optimise the distribution of desalinated water between the Makkah and Madinah regions, improving supply reliability and increasing the operational flexibility of the network.
The infrastructure also features a reversible pumping system, two large-capacity storage reservoirs, and a 13 MW photovoltaic solar plant. These elements will improve energy efficiency and support a more sustainable operating model.
Recognised as one of the most significant water transmission projects currently under development in Saudi Arabia, the Rayis-Rabigh IWTP represents an important step forward in the modernisation of the country’s water infrastructure. The project also contributes to the sustainability and water security goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.
